SECTION VIII BOYS & GIRLS WINTER
TRACK 2006-07
CONFERENCE MEETS INFORMATION
Section VIII policy for many sports
and especially for the running sports limit the possibilities for meet setup
and administration. All events are based
on a four hour block of time.
Coordinators must try to plan events for four hours or less. Winter Track has an additional goal in that
our meets are supposed to end by 10 PM. This is not practical and is frequently
surpassed due to times allocated to us.
Our meets are planned to finish in four hours or less. Coaches should make sure that they return
directly to their school after a meet – do not stop for snacks. Parents must be informed of anticipated time
for a return to school so they can plan student-athlete pickups.
This year we once again have
been given six dates at Farmingdale State College. We can go back to limiting each meet to two
conferences, with separate dates for boys and girls. There is no seeding
meeting for conference meets, so it is imperative that 3x5 cards have actual
times, no estimates, no made-up times.
If a schools seeds prove to be unreasonable early in the meet, that
school will lose its seeding privileges for the remainder of the meet. Upon
arrival at the site, hand in written entry on the Sec 8 form, and put your 3x5
cards in the appropriate boxes at the clerks table. A legal entry lists each athlete in only
three events, and each school is limited to 3 scorers in each event. A relay
may have six names, all of which count as one of each athletes’ 3 events. The non-scoring events are; the 55m dash, the
600m run, and the 1500/1600m run, plus the Shot and HJ. Athletes in non-scoring
events are limited to two events, one of which can be a scoring event. HJ & SP will be restricted according to
time this will be announced at the meet. Exceeding event limits disqualifies
the athlete from all events they participated in.
